New C64 Mini limited edition includes 25 modern Commodore games

Retro Games Limited has just launched a new version of its tiny Commodore 64 home computer. C64 Mini – Black Edition is a limited release honoring the talented developers who create modern Commodore games. The Black Edition comes pre-installed with the C64 Mini’s original 64 game lineup and 25 modern games, including some of the greatest games in C64 history like Sam's Journey and A Pig Quest.
C64 Mini – Black Edition retails for $120 and is available exclusively on Amazon in the US. Amazon is “temporarily out of stock” on launch day (October 24), but you can still place an order. The original C64 Mini launched in 2018 with an MSRP of $70 — you can Get one now from Amazon for only $51. The huge price increase may be partly related to economic changes and tariffs, but the addition of modern games may have played a bigger role.
The vast majority of new games (19 to be exact) are sold on itch.io by major Commodore 64 publishers, including Mind Electronics and prototype. Psytronik's games typically cost five dollars or less, but games released by Protovision tend to carry higher price tags. There are four pre-installed Protovision games that usually cost around $55 in total: sam's journey ($24), pig's exploration ($11.61), Super megawatt ($11), and yeti mountain ($9). These are among the most ambitious C64 games. For example, developer Knights of Bytes created more than 2,000 screens for Sam's Journey's 30 extra-long levels. This is one of the best retro platformers I've ever played (and also Available on NES). In short: a $50 price increase seems very reasonable.

The Black Edition comes with the same items as the original: C64 Mini computer, classic USB joystick, USB power cord, HDMI cable, and instruction manual. Like many other mini consoles, it doesn't come with an AC adapter, but basically any USB module will work. Or you can power it via one of the USB ports on your TV.
The C64 Mini is approximately half the size of the original Commodore 64 computer. The “keyboard” is decorative – no mini home computer has a fully functional keyboard. However, if you want to write your own programs using the BASIC interpreter and/or launch games added to the C64 Mini via a USB stick, you can plug almost any keyboard into the second USB port. You can also connect a second joystick for multiplayer gaming. A reliable and affordable option is Super Golden Cavalry About $18.
The C64 Mini displays games in 720p resolution, pixel-perfect or native 4:3 aspect ratio. If you want to replicate a classic look, you can add scanlines (CRT filters). All preloaded games have four save slots so you can save your progress at any time.
Here's the full list of modern Commodore 64 games that the C64 Mini – Black Edition comes with out of the box. The price next to each title is the price you pay on itch.io. Games without price can be downloaded for free. As a reminder, these are just new games; the Black Edition still comes with the original 64 games.
