Lana Del Rey appears to have gotten a second chance to record the James Bond theme song, this time for an upcoming video game 007 The first ray of light.
eagle-eyed fans reddit A fresh song called “First Light” has been discovered, registered with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) by Del Rey (real name Elizabeth Grant).
While it's not fully confirmed, Del Rey singing the game's theme song would be a perfect fit, as the singer's 2005 song “24” was snubbed for Daniel Craig's appearance in Specter, the 24th film in the franchise. IGN has reached out to IO Interactive for more information.
Last year, Del Rey revealed that she had written the song as a Bond theme, but it was instead chosen for Sam Smith's “Writing's On the Wall.”
“I wrote it for them,” Del Rey told bbc news Before. “Sam, you did a great job. Maybe one day…but I'm going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then and pretend it's the title song.”
The Bond series typically commissions several potential theme songs for each film's release, and there are many “lost” Bond tracks recorded by famous artists over the years. For example, Johnny Cash recorded the theme song for Thunderball, and Pulp recorded the theme song for Tomorrow Never Dies.
And, like Del Ray, Radiohead also recorded the theme song for Specter (just titled “Spectre”), which they had also previously released.
As for Dawn, which looks promising, developer IO Interactive seems more than happy to reveal details over time, such as the long-awaited confirmation that, yes, Original Sin's Patrick Gibson is indeed playing the new-faced Bond. Recently, we also learned Marvel star Gemma Chan will also play a role in the game.
“007 First Light” has a release date of March 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
