Publisher Reef Entertainment and developer Bitmap Bureau have released a new Terminator 2D: No Destiny The trailer shows how next month's arcade-style action game will reimagine the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
It's a two-and-a-half-minute modern take on the retro game that debuted at the 2025 IGN Fall Fan Festival. The sequel to director James Cameron's '90s original that has been a fan favorite for decades, Terminator 2D: No Fate is designed to allow players to experience fan-favorite moments as well as new scenes.
As Bitmap Bureau lead programmer and designer Mike Tucker explains in today's trailer, gameplay in Terminator 2D: No Fate starts very simply, with players tasked with reliving the events of the Terminator 2 movie through the lens of the 2D retro side-scroller game. The No Fate title then plays on repeat as fans can choose to make choices that change the story they've known for years.
Secret levels and remixed weaponry are just the tip of the iceberg in Terminator 2D: No Fate. The example we saw in today's IGN Fall 2025 Fan Fest trailer looks back at Sarah Connor's journey through Cyberdyne headquarters. Players will first fight off waves of SWAT using Sarah's pistol and some well-timed punches. However, in subsequent games, coupled with different options, she might use an assault rifle to charge into a hail of bullets, while Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 rips apart enemies with his minigun.
“Incorporating this critical decision that players must make allows us to stay true to the movie, while also opening up the possibility of new scenarios and gameplay ideas that make replays both rewarding and fun, allowing fans of the series to experience combat they've only dreamed of before,” Tucker explained.
