Stunning Lovecraft Collector’s Box Set Is Deeply Discounted for the First Time, Just in Time for Halloween

HP Lovecraft is responsible for a long list of classic horror story continues to have a huge impact in literature, film, television, and video games. The author blends unsettling cosmic horror with sci-fi/fantasy and gothic settings – almost always with a generous dose weird—so well-known that the term Lovecraftian is used to describe stories inspired by his work. Stories like “The Call of Cthulhu” and “At the Mountains of Madness” are still worth reading nearly 100 years after they were first published. This is almost certainly the most amazing Lovecraft collection you'll find at a major retailer or bookstore.

The 1,188-page set is divided into two striking dark green volumes and is hardcovered in faux leather, akin to high-quality books from the Lovecraftian era. Foil stamped badge and text on cover and spine.

HP Lovecraft Experience includes all of the author's works, so it's your one-stop shop for his novels, novellas, short stories, and other works.

Both books are packaged in an engraved display case featuring a new 3D depiction of Cthulhu. When we say 3D, we mean Cthulhu rising from the surface of the shell, making the cosmic entity even more terrifying than it already is.

The oversized display box holds more than just two books, though. HP The Lovecraft Historical Society has created a new readers' guide reviewing 10 of Lovecraft's short stories. Written by Sean Blaney and Andrew Lyman, co-founders of the Lovecraft Historical Society, this guide should be an interesting read for both novice and experienced readers. The Reader's Guide has a look and feel that matches the two main volumes, but is sized like a notebook. The format here is consistent with the overall theme of the collection.

All supplements are related to Miskatonic University, a fictional Massachusetts university that played an important role in many of Lovecraft's stories, including all of his Cthulhu-related works.

Big Lovecraft fans might want to frame their Miskatonic University diplomas—but only if you read the Undergraduate Course Book, which is presented in booklet form. There are other Miskatonic-themed collectibles in the box, including bookmarks, library cards, patches and decals.

HP Lovecraft Experience is also available as Kindle e-book for $20. Obviously, you'll miss out on the collectibles and premium demo, but you still get both volumes and the Reader's Guide. notes: The “paperback edition” on the Amazon store page isn't really an HP Lovecraft experience. It was self-published by someone who wanted to game the system. Don't buy it.

More Lovecraft Box Sets and Collectibles

Since most of Lovecraft's works are in the public domain, you can read many of his horror stories online for free. You can also find a dizzying number of Lovecraft series on Amazon. But remember, Lovecraft being in the public domain means there are a lot of horrible Versions of designs created by random people from around the world.

Oddly enough, The HP Lovecraft Experience is one of the rare editions of the author's complete work that looks good. There are cheaper options that readers like, but they're not always as comprehensive.

A solid budget-friendly option is HP Lovecraft Collection: 6-Book Deluxe Bundle. The set includes hardcover editions of six of the author's most famous works in presentation boxes. The artwork and cover design aren't terribly exciting, but the books themselves are well made. We also recommend Barnes & Noble Collector's Edition of the Complete Novels of Lovecraft on sale for $27 (originally $30). This handsome hardcover edition features a bonded leather binding, illustrated endpapers, and a ribbon bookmark. Barnes & Noble also has The Complete Cthulhu Mythos Story Collector’s Edition $30.

For another respected version, check out HP Lovecraft's complete novels now available for $14 (originally $18). This 1,112-page hardcover was published by Chartwell Books in 2016 and remains a good choice today. The Complete Story of HP LovecraftPublished in 2019, Rock Point is essentially the same book, but it has more evocative cover art and costs about the same.

Lovecraft fans and horror comic readers should definitely Check out comic book adaptations of Lovecraft's works. Written and drawn by Tsuyoshi Tanabe and translated into English by Zach Davidson, this manga is hauntingly beautiful. You may have noticed from the cover art above, but Tanabe's illustrations are simply incredible.
