Fortnite’s Ghostface Crossover Is Much Cooler Than You Think

Ever since Ghostface appeared in Call of Duty years ago, I've been impatiently waiting for my favorite horror icon to appear in my favorite multiplayer game. I knew it was only a matter of time, and thankfully, the time is now. fortnite 2025 Ghostface has been added to Fortnite along with many other crossover games such as Scooby-Doo, Terriifier's Art the Clown, indie horror hit REPO, Poppy Playtime, and more. But not all of these collaborations get the same treatment, and even cooler than the upcoming Ghostface skin are the new Scream-style weapons.

In Fortnite's latest Halloween event, you can find a new Last Call weapon inspired by Scream's legendary slasher. The weapon is more like a set of functions; it's a knife with movement, voice, and, when equipped, a complete Ghostface costume. While Scooby-Doo Snacks or Doja's Thorn Ripper were both fun and redesigns of existing items, Last Call is unlike anything the game has included before, and as a huge Scream fan, I think Epic definitely nailed the design.

First, how do you get it. You can't pick up the Last Summoning Knife in a chest, nor can you find it as floor loot. Instead, you have to go to a phone booth. Briefly stepping into a phone booth you're dressed as Ghostface, and every time you remove the knife you're stripped of the all-black costume and signature white mask, fitting in with Scream's list of killers who have claimed to have played Ghostface over the years.

I'll admit, it was fun when I was already playing as Michael Myers and switching between Carpenter and Craven with the press of a button, but I like how this subtle aesthetic choice captures an important aspect of the Scream series – not to mention it gives some people the chance to play as Ghostface even if they haven't purchased the skin.

Then, there's the “Last Call” special feature. When you swing it, you'll run faster. Speed ​​has always been what differentiates Ghostface from most other hack and slash games. The likes of Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers slowly make their way towards their prey – no doubt terrifying in its own right – Ghostface Dash. Epic wisely combined the knife with a movement speed buff to really capture the killer vibe.

The finishing touch I love is the phone element associated with the item. This knife has the ability to “call” others on the map, which in game terms will ping anyone within the radius of the item as long as you use the ability between cooldowns. A phone ringing is one of the first things we hear in the Scream series, and the voice of Roger L. Jackson taunting his victims of their favorite horror movies and stalking them while hiding is as integral to the series as the mask itself.

In Fortnite, every time you pick up a knife from a phone booth, you'll hear Ghostface – who appears to be Jackson reprising his role – shouting a voice line. When you successfully ping someone nearby using the calling feature, he or she will speak again. In Last Call, I heard several different phrases in just a few rounds. These features give the knife a role-playing element, as every aspect capitalizes on the character's nearly 30-year history.

As a huge Scream fan, I've made it a point to not only grab Last Call every round, but I've even been playing with the knife (along with some movement items and healing, of course). Sure, Ghostface briefly wielded a shotgun in Scream 6, but I had a great time playing the lead villain from one of my favorite horror movies in a knife-only match. Epic continues to add cool, creative new items to Fortnite every season, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised that the Ghostface crossover is getting so good, but this The thoughtfulness that goes into weapon design is usually reserved for the many major Star Wars and Marvel collaborations. As someone who has no feelings for these series but loves Scream so much that I have a Ghostface tattoo, it's exciting to be on the receiving end of Fortnite's latest extra effort.
