Helldivers 2 Dev explains why the game takes up so much space on PC

Have you noticed it Hell 2 Taking up more space on your PC with Xbox Series X | S or PlayStation 5? At 150GB, the game is about three times that of the console on the PC. According to Brendan Armstrong, technical director of Arrowhead Game Studio, the Helldivers 2 is still catering to a small number of PC users.
In lengthy posts steamArmstrong wrote that the Helldivers 2 installation footprint is so large, as most of it is to benefit players who still use mechanical hard drives. This is an outdated process that has duplicate data, grouped together to reduce loading time. Armstrong noted that repetition is not required for players who have long been upgraded to solid-state drives, but it is difficult for the arrow to determine how many players are retaining on the mechanical HDD.
“How many Helldivers 2 players are still using mechanical HDDs? The fact is, we don't know at the moment,” Armstrong wrote. “Even Steam user surveys can't provide us with data on the use of mechanical HDDs in the entire game player count. Our best estimates make up about 12% of all PC gamers, but the data is very unreliable and relies on a lot of extrapolation. Until we can more accurately determine the number of mechanical HDDSs for many people, even in many cases, even if that data has been recorded. Small, remember that the burden time for each player to fall into a task is determined by the slowest member of the team.”
Armstrong has proposed some potential solutions and pointed out that the next update will make some progress in reducing file size. However, he warns that players may not notice the difference: “Because the new things we add will eat up these benefits.” For the mid-term solution, Arrowhead plans to bundle public assets together instead of containing many duplicate files. On the downside, the game for mechanical HDD users will make the game a little slower, but he hopes to keep the load time “less than 30 seconds.”
Going forward, Arrow will also work to improve its engines and improve compression technology that reduces repetitive demand. However, Armstrong added that the studio does not yet know if the impact on load time will make this an infeasible solution.
Arrowhead Game Studio CEO Shams Jorjani recently said the team’s goal for Hell 2 is Keep developing foreverinstead of moving to Hell 3. The studio has also released Patch to fix cave crashes and audio errors. Recently, the arrow admitted a long List of problem solvingincluding “problems including performance degradation, stable ic, freezing and annoying audio errors”. Updates are planned for later this month, but many of these issues may take more time to resolve.
