Pragmata developers say they “can't predict” the growth of real-life AI when they first think of the story of the game

Capcom's upcoming new IP, Pragmata, has a major rival, which is indeed the rogue AI on the moon, making life difficult for Astronaut and his Android Buddy. But despite recent news, especially in games, Pragmata developers say they absolutely don't know that this will be a hot topic when they start developing the game.
Game director Cho Yonghee and producer Naoto Oyama talked to me on the Tokyo Game Show on the Tokyo Game Show, telling me that the concept of Pragmata is just from Yonghee, thinking about the moon, and asking the team to brainstorm the game on the moon. From there, the developers introduced a “black and white world” on the moon, and the concept of enemies becoming AI emerged later.
But, they say, no team knows they will release games about enemy AI when real-life AI is such an upset subject.
“We really can’t predict that from what you’re seeing now, AI will be so big, but now that we’ve made AI a huge thing in the real world, what we’re seeing is, ‘Oh, maybe we should add it, or from what you’re seeing in AI right now,” Yonghee told me. “So we're like, 'We should think of it.'”
However, the two confirmed that the changes in the real world around AI did not affect the story or direction of the game. When it became a hot topic, the direction was set.
“A few years ago, when we released the concept trailer, we locked in the idea of AI in the game very early in development,” Oyama said. “So we've basically seen what you're seeing in the game. Then we really can't predict that AI will become so important now.”
“Yes,” Yangxi added. “So, the advancement or development of AI in real life, it has been so rapid that what we have in the game now. So what you see in the game may not be as amazing as compared to real life.”
I smiled a little and pointed out that I haven't let Dianas run around in the real world yet.
“We have created the near future, but the future is close,” Oyan replied.
“Yes, only the term AI is getting older,” Yonghee said. “So maybe by the time we reach age or the time when Paragma happens, people don’t even use the word ai anymore.”
Recently, we watched pragmata again Capcom plans online with TGSwe have one Hands-on preview of the game on Gamescom earlier this year. We also talked with Oyama and Yonghee about early ideas about pragmata, including It may talk to the dog. Pragmata is out sometime next year.
