Battlefield 6 Devs wants machine players to continue playing cross-play even if “we can never win”

The developers behind Battlefield 6 Players on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S are encouraged to continue cross-playing, even if they “can't guarantee zero cheaters on PC.”
Christian Buhl, technical director of Ripple Effect, and senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson, talked about the threat of cheaters on the battlefield in a recent interview with IGN. During the chat, we learned how the team can support console players in everything from cross playback to performance and faithful mode.
We also learn how the studio can implement anti-correction measures for next month’s Battlefield Sequel. Talk to see Boole admit that while it's hard to provide a backup environment for those who play with the Battlefield 6 PC pool, Ripple Effect and the rest of the BF Studios team have gone to great lengths to fight the cheaters.
“So we did a lot of things on the PC side to limit cheating as much as possible,” Boole said. “We have an entire team on the battlefield that is specifically targeting anti-deception, which includes engineers, analysts who are reviewing things and banning players, and figuring out what the latest cheater is. We have another comprehensive team in EA to work closely with us against cheating.”
Buhl also highlights the new Battlefield 6 anti-display system Javelin and Separate startas other important components of its strategy. Still, as cheaters continue to run AMOK in the most popular multiplayer game on the market, Ripple Effect knows some will slip through the cracks, especially on PCs.
“Now, we can never resist cheaters, right?” Boole added. “The cheaters will always be there. It's a never-ending cat soldier game. I can't guarantee that if you play with a PC player, it's going to be a zero cheater. It's simply impossible, but I can say we're very aggressive. We think it's crucial to the health of the game.”
Battlefield 6 is released on October 10, 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, but Cheaters is able to penetrate servers a few months ahead of schedule. EA has held open beta throughout August, allowing players to enjoy pre-match tastes on the battlefield of BF Studios over the past few years. It also saw the players coming Face to face with cheaters Despite the efforts of the development team, EA reported that this blocked 330,000 cheat attempts on August 8, only one day after the start of early access to open Beta.
Nixon said that by default, the campaign will continue when players first loaded into Battlefield 6, and players should know if they are particularly worried about meeting cheaters on their PCs. Console users who turn off cross-games will limit the pool to the PlayStation and Xbox communities, but Ripple Effect hopes it won't happen.
“You don't want to play the game, it feels like a bunch of people on the other side are cheating,” Buhl added. “I want players on the console to be confident in our work of cheating on the PC, and they don't want to just get crossplay for that reason.
