PSA: Borderless 4 gold keys/boxes may not be used immediately

While the golden chest may be opened immediately once you get the golden key, this is not necessarily the way you want to use rare items in Borderlands 4.

Gold chest has some warnings in border areas 4

For beginners, the golden breasts are located only a few specific locations around Kairos in Borderlands 4, so you open them right after you start playing the game. However, after you complete a few missions and get a good time in the game, you will encounter the first golden boobs. While you might want to open your chest immediately, if you have a golden key on it, that's not the most effective move.

Instead, you want to wait until your role is at a pretty high level. This is because when you open a golden chest, all the loot inside will scale to your current level. So, for example, if you open a golden chest at level 10, the weapons, shields, and other items on the chest will be near that level. While this has no effect on you in the short term, you tend to quickly upgrade to level below level 20 in Borderlands 4. This means that after several missions and levels, your golden chest may be matched by standard ground loot.

The highest level of Borderlands 4 is level 50, but if you're a breeze, you can complete the main story quest around level 35-40. So with that in mind, ideally you want to wait until the end of the story. Level 30 is a good starting point to start using the gold keys. You may have gone beyond the middle of the story, and once you reach this threshold, it's hard to reach the level, so your loot can last longer.

Of course, if you do have patience and plan to reach maximum level, you can wait until level 50 to use the Golden Key. This ensures that your golden chest loot is as powerful as possible and you don't have to worry about over-over-passing the practicality of the loot.

On the other hand, you have obtained the golden keys and you should use them in the right way. If you're struggling at a specific point in Borderlands 4 and feel you need some extra firepower to browse it, opening a golden chest to get you out of the hump is a viable option. The golden key may be few, but with Border 4's Life Cycle 4 going on in 2025 and 2026. Twitch drops 4 in border areaswith these projects also expand to your level.

So, at the end of the day, the best time to use the Gold Key is when you are at a higher level to ensure the loot is longer. However, no matter your current level, some situations with Boundary 4 may require powerful loot.
